Why is the submersible Titanic model so expensive?

In the 1990s a small publishing company made a Titanic model that sank exactly like the real one. It was remarkable, and quickly became a favorite toy of kids from the 90s.

But then the company dissolved and it stopped being made.

Now it's a very expensive collectable. They list on eBay for over $750.

That's actually why I built Titanic Dream. People had been paying collector prices for a twenty-five-year-old toy because nothing else did what it did. It was my dream to bring it back to life.

Hence: Titanic Dream.

Our T3 model is a lot more affordable than the collectable, but it's still a fairly expensive item. It's a Christmas or birthday kind of thing.

It's expensive because I make these ships by hand. Every day I sit over my workstation assembling ships. (And around Christmas I do feel like an elf.)

But the most costly thing is the research and design. You would not believe how difficult it is to get the physics right. I spent months just tinkering with the T3's ballast. Taking a gram away there, moving a gram here.

And that's what this whole thing is. It's engineering and physics.

Without solid physics, it sinks when it should float, and floats when it should sink.

And I'm not done. The T3 is the third version. Every version has been better than the last, and the proceeds from this version pays to develop the next one.

Finally, Titanic submersibles are all we do. There are other ships out there made by high-volume print shops making Titanic models next to phone stands.

We're the only company entirely focused on Titanic submersibles. That's why we're always improving.

So there are cheaper Titanic toys. And if you want something cheaper, go for it. The most important thing is that you're having fun.
